Hello, my name is Katie Willingham and I’m an HIV advocate because stigma kills unnecessarily and people living with HIV deserve a voice. I am the Alabama State Lead for the Positive Women’s Network USA, a national HIV and human rights advocacy organization comprised and led by women living with HIV, we believe in the bonds of sisterhood, the strength of solidarity, and the change that’s possible when we act together. I blog with The Well Project’s blogging forum called A Girl Like Me because we all have a story to tell, and your story has the power to change someone’s life. I am a U=U ambassador because Undetectable equals Untransmittable is a scientific fact that kills stigma and changes lives. And I advocate with my local AIDS service organization and the Alabama Department of Public Health’s HIV Prevention and Care Planning Committee because my community matters to me. I once had no voice but someone advocated for me, for the research, funds, and services that saved my life, now I choose to be that voice for others like me. Never doubt that you are enough to change the world, or that your voice can make a difference, because it can.
