My name is Brandy and I am an HIV advocate. After losing my father in 1997 to HIV/AIDS , I along with my 6 month old twins started participating in the Salt Lake AIDS walk in memory of my father Joseph Romero.
As my kids were getting older I was able to start volunteering at the Utah AIDS Foundation In 2005. I volunteered in their test site , outreach and special events.
In 2015 I was offered a job as their supportive services coordinator. Seeing 70 to 80 clients (HIV-positive individuals) a week. Providing them with food from our onsite pantry , co-facilitating our womens group, coordinating healthy POZ dinners and quarterly socials.
I recently received the RCGSE Humanitarian Award and The Cleve Jones HIV-AIDS Leadership award. I am very honored and humbled to be recognized for my work with HIV in the community.
I love the work I do and people I serve. They are not just my clients , they are my friends . I am their voice when they need one , a shoulder to cry on , and I will fight along side them to end the stigma surrounding HIV.
